Sandhill Crane Blind

This is a photo of the blind we used... I took this with my new Canon EF 35mm f/2.0 prime lens! It's sharp and I like it. This lens we will use mostly for video when we get the T2i.

Sandhill Cranes

The cranes didn't want to get close for a long time but there were a lot flying around. Sort of wish the lighting was better...

Sandhill Cranes

It was getting dark fast so the shutter speed had to come down which is obvious in these shots.

Sandhill Cranes

Cool motion blur effects.

Sandhill Cranes

It was hard to follow them with the tripod perfectly to get a good shot with a slow shutter speed.

Sandhill Cranes

It's crazy how part of the wingtips turned out so sharp when the rest is not.

Sandhill Cranes

Dragonflies...

Sandhill Cranes

Platte River

This was the layout in front of the blind.

Sandhill Cranes

Coming downriver...I found out that cranes have souls that night. Pretty obvious in the next shot. :P

Last shot of the night.

First shot of the morning.

Sandhill Cranes

Asleep.

Sandhill Cranes

Awake.

Sandhill Cranes

Much warmer white balance after sunrise.

Sandhill Cranes

More cool motion blur effects.

A few shots with the 1.4x.

Very nice Benjamin! I think my favorite is the one crane flying with the blurry background. But the crane souls are pretty interesting too. How does that work anyway? Are they really cranes that just turned out fuzzy?

I think those were around 15 sec. exposures. If a crane stands in one spot for a few seconds then moves thats what it looks like.

Oh ok. A person could have a lot of fun with that.

No, Ben's just making that up. There really are crane ghosts. And I should know - I got attacked by one once. It was pretty crazy, but that's a story for another time. Nice shots, Ben!

A moment of silence to all those who have been lost to crane ghosts. The brave always die young.

Nice cover up attempt, Ben.

Really Michael? Or do you know that I'm gullible? Either way...I want to hear the story! Sounds funny...

Very neat! I love the pictures where they are sleeping along with the "ghosts"! I wish we had our camera the other day. There were two cranes flying directly over each other! It was pretty neat!

Very nice! I think my favorites are the ones with the blur effect and the ones with the crane "ghosts."
